1. Who we are
BooPaw ("we", "us") is a pet care app and website operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS], [COUNTRY] (company number [NUMBER]). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: support@boopaw.app.
EU representative (GDPR Art. 27, needed if the company is outside the EU): [NAME AND ADDRESS, OR REMOVE]. UK representative: [NAME AND ADDRESS, OR REMOVE].
2. What we collect
- Account: name, email address, a hashed password (or your Google / Apple sign-in ID), optional phone number and profile photo, country, time zone, language, preferred units, and when you accepted these terms.
- Your pets: profile details you add (name, species, breed, sex, date of birth, weight, colour, microchip number, markings, photos), medical notes, allergies, medications, your vet and an emergency contact.
- Care records: health records, daily logs and expenses you enter.
- Location: when you report a lost or found pet, the location you give; only an approximate area (rounded to about 1 km) is ever shown to others. If you turn on nearby lost-pet alerts, we keep an approximate area (about 1 km) to match alerts; turning alerts off deletes it. When you search for nearby vets or services, your location is used for that search and not stored.
- QR tag scans: when someone scans your pet's tag we record the time, device type, browser, city/country if provided and a one-way hash of their IP address. Scan records are deleted after 180 days.
- Messages and reports: messages, photos and contact details that finders choose to send you, found-pet reports, and reports about content that breaks our guidelines.
- Business listings: the business details you submit to appear in Nearby Services.
- Purchases: subscriptions are paid through Apple or Google. Through our subscription provider RevenueCat we receive the plan, price, renewal and billing status — never your card details.
- AI Vet: your questions, your pet's profile and recent health records are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate an answer. We do not store the conversation. [CONFIRM: under our agreement with Anthropic, API data is not used to train its models.]
- Device and technical data: a push-notification token if you allow notifications, and security logs (such as a hashed IP address) used to protect accounts.
We do not use advertising trackers, sell your personal data, or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
3. Why we use it (legal bases)
- To provide the service you asked for — your account, pet profiles, QR tags, care tracking, lost & found, AI Vet and subscriptions (performance of a contract).
- With your consent — nearby lost-pet alerts, push notifications, device location for searches. You can withdraw consent at any time in the app's settings.
- For our legitimate interests — keeping the service secure, preventing fraud and abuse, moderating reported content, and improving the service.
- To meet legal obligations — for example keeping billing records.
4. Who can see it
- Anyone who scans your pet's tag sees only the fields you choose to make public for that pet.
- Lost pet reports are public with an approximate area; your exact location is never shown.
- Service providers that process data for us under contract: [HOSTING / DATABASE PROVIDER AND REGION], [FILE STORAGE PROVIDER AND REGION], [EMAIL PROVIDER], Expo (push notifications), RevenueCat (subscriptions), Anthropic (AI Vet), Google and Apple (sign-in and app stores).
- Authorities when the law requires it.
5. International transfers
Some providers process data outside the EU/UK (for example in the United States). Where they do, we rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses to protect it.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account and pet data: until you delete your account (you can do this in the app at any time; it removes your account, pets, records, reports and photos).
- QR scan records: 180 days. Sign-in sessions: 30 days. Lost pet reports stop being shown after 60 days.
- Subscription and billing records and staff moderation logs: as long as required by law or to resolve disputes.
7. Your rights
You can access, correct, delete or export your data, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent. In the app: Profile → Privacy → Download my data and Profile → Delete Account. Or email support@boopaw.app. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
California residents: you have the right to know, delete and correct your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information.
8. Children
BooPaw is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
Passwords are hashed with Argon2, connections are encrypted, and access to data is limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will tell you as the law requires.
10. Changes
We'll post changes here and, for significant changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
